The feeding is a key aspect for Health of the organism in a multitude of areas. Thus, depending on the type of food, its properties are beneficial for certain situations. It is the case of the carrot, which offers positive effects on the health of the skin.
Precisely, at times of the year such as summer we need to protect the body against the possible harmful effects of the sun. In this sense, foods such as carrots or tomatoes, thanks to their composition, present better results than the use of pills that are used as photoprotectors.
This is stated by the head of the Dermatology Service of the Virgen Macarena Hospital, Francisco Camacho. Regarding the intake of this type of pills, this specialist points out that “they should only be considered as a complement to external creams or photoprotectors.”
The importance of sun protection
Sunscreen creams must have at least a minimum factor of 15, according to Dr. Camacho, although he recommends using higher factors, such as 30 or 50.
“Using these sunscreens does not prevent you from getting brown and he recommended looking for those that protect only from B rays, which are harmful, and not those that only cause a brown color on the skin,” explains this expert.
However, Dr. Camacho also explains that it is important to consume foods such as carrots or tomatoes, which due to their properties can be especially beneficial for health.
For example, carrots are one of the great sources of vitamin A, a vitamin that enhances skin care and helps prevent skin cancer.
However, the head of the Dermatology area also focuses on the need for moderate sun exposure. In this regard, it offers a series of practical tips that could be highly beneficial:
- Stay in the shade for as long as possible.
- Do not sunbathe in the time slot from 11:00 to 15:00.
- Do not exceed 30 minutes of sun exposure.
How carrot consumption benefits skin care
Carrots are one of the most beneficial foods that exist for skin health. This is mainly thanks to its high content of vitamin A, this vitamin being an important antioxidant that fights free and radicals and the signs of aging.
In addition, carrot is an orange food that is also an important source of vitamin E. It is this element that allows the skin to look radiant, with a healthy and fresh appearance. For this reason, carrots enhance the tanning of the skin while protecting it from the sun’s ultraviolet rays.
On the other hand, carrots are also rich in beta-carotene, a micronutrient that does not irritate the skin and is converted into vitamin A for the body, acting in tissue repair. That is why this micronutrient is incorporated in a large majority of sun creams.
In addition to carrots, foods with vitamin C are also ideal for the best skin care, since their antioxidant power also helps fight free radicals. But in addition, vitamin C also favors the production of collagen, a key substance in skin health.
